Dembele’s Champions League campaign in numbers

According to reports from Sky Sports, Chelsea are interested in signing Celtic striker Moussa Dembele, but may have to cough up as much as £40million to nab him before tonight’s 11:00pm deadline.

The Frenchman moved to Celtic Park for a mere £500k last summer and has set Scottish football alight, putting the Bhoys well on their way to another top flight title with 15 goals domestically – including nine in the Scottish Premiership.

But considering Scottish football isn’t the best barometer of ability these days, Dembele’s performances in the Champions League – where Chelsea will be competing next season barring an absolute catastrophe in the remaining weeks of the season – are probably more applicable to the Blues.

And fortunately for Antonio Conte, as our infographic shows, the 20-year-old has excelled in Europe’s premier tournament this season too, notching up three goals in six group stage outings – including a brace against Chelsea’s divisional rivals Manchester City – whilst perhaps most impressively of all, recording an 83% shot accuracy from 14 attempts.

But £40million is a pretty hefty sum, even for a club as rich as Chelsea. So we have a closing question for Blues fans; is Dembele worth a £40million punt?
